Two Worries for Youths Fri 22nd Apr 2005 11:20
Town are sweating on the fitness of two of their Irish contingent ahead of tonight's delicately poised FA Youth Cup final second leg at Portman Road against Southampton (KO 7.45pm). Left-back Michael Synnott and central midfielder Owen Garvan both picked up knee injuries in Monday's first leg at the St Mary's Stadium.

Town's U18s will feel they have every chance of lifting the FA Youth Cup at Portman Road on Friday after a 2-2 draw with Southampton in the first leg at the St Mary's Stadium. The Saints went ahead via a David McGoldrick penalty seconds before the break but two goals from Cathal Lordan put the Blues ahead prior to Leon Best's equaliser.

Town's U18s travel to Southampton tonight for the first leg of the club's first FA Youth final for 30 years (KO 7.45pm). The Blues will be without striker Billy Clarke who has a knee injury which he sustained late in the second leg of the semi-final with Spurs.

Town's U18s comfortably defeated Aston Villa 3-1 in the FA Youth Cup to set up a quarter-final tie against Colchester United at Layer Road. The Blues went three ahead through Liam Craig, Cathal Lordan and Billy Clarke, before Michael Tuohy pulled one back for the visitors.

The Town youngsters dominated from the start and Billy Clarke signalled their intent with a couple of blocked shots inside the first three minutes. Strike partner Darryl Knights did well to bring the ball down shortly afterwards but his shot flew well wide.

Spanish striker Pablo Couñago has an opportunity to impress manager Joe Royle tonight when the reserves take on Arsenal at Portman Road (KO 7pm). Couñago was left out of the first team squad which won at Sheffield United on Saturday, after a number of disappointing performances in the reserves.
